People often ask us "SVS's are supposed to be good on movie audio... are they good on music too??" To which we have always given a resounding "Yes". After all, all the designers at SVS cut their teeth on music long before "home theater", so we know how to make bass sound right on both. From the start, this sub like all our subs, was intended as more proof of that. While it gives up a bit of max-headroom to its more powerful PB12-Plus/2 brother, it's perfect for moderately-sized rooms -- and anyone wanting a sub that will be incredibly accurate on music (which rarely has the requirements for ultra low or ultra loud bass home theater is famous for). While music demands are frequently less challenging to the "guts" of the best subwoofers, the complex dynamic range recorded into today's high resolution audio sources means you want to "over build". Who wants a subwoofer with intrusive "limiters" or one that runs out of "headroom" when the sonic attacks get really demanding?
This sub is overbuilt by design for music or movies. With 1" enclosure walls, tough but attractive textured finishes and a trio of patented 3" ports (user adjustable of course!), we didn't cut any corners coming up with this entry level super sub. While the competition in this price class typically gets by with a single 12" or 15" woofer, a middling amount of power or tiny enclosures (the bane of clean and powerful bass) --- we stuffed TWO of our superlative NSD woofers in with an amp that's conservatively rated at 600 watts. There's nothing tiny about this sub; it's staggeringly efficient to keep up with the most "musical" main speakers. The result? When other subs are straining on live concert music or movies, lopping off whole octaves from your recordings, or simply sounding boomy and un-natural... THIS sub isn't breaking a sweat.
Why would SVS build something so capable when it might "only" get used for music? So that regardless of whether you favor, Bach, Beatles, Beasties or Oingo Boingo, you will know that you have SVS's famous depth, linear response, and incredibly clean and responsive power to take your music from background level to concert levels ... without skipping a beat. The fact it gives up nothing on your home theater movie bass (and includes our famous variable tuning feature) means it's a true switch hitter too, like any SVS. Try one for 45 days and hear for yourself.
Little subs are OK on little music and small movies. If you never turn up yours, or are OK with only the barest levels of deep bass, there is no reason to invest in SVS. This sub was meant from the start to be THE solution in rooms where even the PC-Plus subs might not be enough, and both music and home theater had to excel. To do this, you have to put the best parts you can in the package. A look below ought to convince you we've done just that. A few CDs, SACDs, DVD-A, or DVD movies and you'll quickly forget about the parts inside and simply wonder how we did it for R9695.

SVS "Plus 12.3" Subwoofer DriverWhen you are replacing a woofer as tough, as good, and as much a mainstay of our model lines as the venerable award-winning ISD woofer... you take your time, and you build something that's a marked improvement in performance and durability, all while holding the line on cost to the extent you can. The first entry-level 12" woofer good enough to be built by us, and in our own rural-Ohio factory no less. It's all SVS in design. And to say the least, it's a marked improvement, despite the subtle change in nomenclature (some say it's "NSD" for "New Standard Woofer", others simply note that "N" comes after "I" in the dictionary... both would be right). And good as the ISD is/was, this woofer is better still. More efficient, better frequency response, and capable of an even greater pounding ... but still sound supremely accurate on anything from Jazz to Jurassic Park. Using dual spiders for the first time, a superlative voice coil and superior motor structure, the NSD woofer might not win any beauty contests, but you'll care little about that when you hear how it works. In fact, during nearly two years of development, we gave virtually no costing to cosmetic niceties (the ISD was a good looking woofer for sure -- not that this NSD woofer is any slouch, it's more purposeful and less fancy intentionally then). What you get in return is a woofer that actually will run neck and neck with our recently replaced, and much more expensive, dB12.2 "Plus" woofer. All at the old prices. Downside? None really.

600 Watt RMS Built-In BASH Amplifier |
|
Based on its big brothers 900 watt amp from the PB12-Plus/2, this is another high output full-featured digital switching amp born our of the partnership between SVS and Indigo manufacturing, one of the most capable and largest original equipment manufacturers in the world. Built in Canada to exacting standards seldom seen in this price class, its rugged, clean layout and construction serves as a perfect complement to SVS Powered Boxes. Quite literally, thousands of man-hours are expended dialing in performance that perfectly matches the PB12-NSD/2 woofers and its enclosure. As always, we even made sure our own logo graced this amp as a reminder that no other subwoofer manufacturer has it. And since you can only get one on your SVS, you won't see them floating around the various "do it yourself" e-tailers either. Isn't it nice to know your amp was made just for your sub? Don't let the conservative real-world power rating deceive you. Given our latest US-made drivers and the exceptionally efficient SVS box designs, the SVS PB12-NSD/2 can embarrass other subwoofers touting many thousands of watts. Variable crossover (with bypass), defeat-able auto-on, variable phase, variable subsonic, high-level and low-level inputs, detachable power cord, and LOADS of power! This is one amp you can count on to provide years of accurate, deep and powerful bass. Get the BASH advantage on your SVS now. |

More on BASH®BASH® is a proven class of amplification, answering the market needs for efficiency without compromising sound quality. BASH® is a patented "High Efficiency Linear Amplifier" circuit topology that has taken the best of Class D and Class AB and created a new Class of its own. By combining a fast response power converter with a linear amplifier, BASH® is able to maintain both class AB sonic performance and class D efficiency.
BASH® can produce high power levels without cost penalties typically associated with conventiaaaonal amplifier designs. A linear amplifier rated at 100 Watts should be able to deliver 20 Watts continuously. If the same amplifier is to play musical transients that are 10dB louder than its rated power, the amplifier must be able to deliver 1000 watts dynamically. To deliver such dynamic power would require the internal power supply rails to be 300% higher, and the resulting power dissipated at 20 watts output to be 350% higher resulting in increases to heat sinks, power transformer, bulk capacitors, output devices and ultimately increases the cost. BASH® provides customers new solutions, opens new markets, offers greater flexibility, and ultimately reduces the cost of amplification. To read more on BASH® technology click here » |

Flush-mount Amp Configuration |
What makes the PB12-NSD/2 so unique? Well, besides the fact it’s packed with components normally only found in subs costing thousands, is the fact SVS sweats little details like taking its custom state of the art “plate amp” and mounting it flush, safe and secure in one of the nicest looking and best built box subwoofer enclosures in the world. Countless designs were tested and what finally made the cut was something so robust, so effective and so elegant that SVS simply had to build it. All the advantages of a subwoofer box, with the convenience of an “all in one”, built-in amp. That’s the PB12-NSD/2…only available at SVSound. |
Integrated Base Plate with Down-firing Woofer and Floor Mounts |
|
|
No matter how your rock rolls, or how low your organ goes, the shockwaves emanating from that high efficiency woofer propagate out from a fixed platform, our integrated base-plate. Not the floor, and not your ceiling. When you're in the midst of your favorite action movie scene you might wonder if such a stylish, modern looking enclosure can can really move your home theater (without moving around itself). Fortunately for SVS customers, all the drama will be on screen, and all around you in gut pounding, accurate bass. Your subwoofer will serenely be belting it out at all the right moments. Rock solid. Utterly unflappable. Once again, form follows function at SVS.
Want another example of thinking different? How about something simple, like putting our drivers in the preferred downward firing position. But doing it this way makes for the most stable enclosure. Its low center of gravity and an inherently well-protected woofer mean years of rock-solid performance. Bass that goes this low, starts there too. So maybe you have a hard floor and it's time to setup your sub? You won't find hard plastic feet that might vibrate on your SV Subwoofer. Instead the default mounting configuration is a set of compliant foam disks perfectly suited for wood, vinyl or tile flooring. Because our subs have such a low center of gravity the same setup works just as well on thickly padded and carpeted floors too. |

Precision Tuned High-Flow Port |
|
![]() |
Computer-designed and Patented, these high-flow, low noise ports are made in the USA and an industry standard. Why fix what ain't broke?? (But we do get them at a great price on your behalf...it helps when you are on a first name basis with the inventor!). 3" of free flowing internal space, and nearly 7" at their outer flare, these costly parts can breathe nearly as well as 4" straight ports. But just to be sure those killer woofers aren't constrained in any way, we pack THREE of them into the PB12-NSD/2. |
Multiple extension design |
|
![]() |
Multiple tuning points allow you the customer to experiment with "lower than low" bass at their leisure. As it is, the PB2-NSD/2 is tuned stock to 25Hz (with all three ports firing), which will yield strong response to under 20Hz with mid-sized rooms and corner placement. Above this point is where 99% of all music and movie bass is centered after all. It also is the most efficient mode for the PB2-NSD will be; with prodigious sound pressure level capacity. Do you want deeper? Are you willing to give up a few decibels in SPL capacity above 25Hz?? Then insert one, or even two port plugs, click over the subsonic filter knob to the corresponding position and you are there. The photo at right shows setup of the sub to a 20Hz configuration. Most users would experience strong output to around 15Hz with good placement in a typical room with this setup. This is the sort of bass that is just plain scary when done with low distortion. but it's one of the reasons SVS's are so famous! |
Pro-Grade Black Poly Finish |
|
Some audio enclosures are made from some pretty cheesy materials. At SVS we don't cut corners in an effort to increase profits. We just hand select American-made materials that we'd want (and have) in our own homes. Specially laminated and extra thick enclosures, and costly yet still cost-effective finishes, all still brought to you at affordable prices. Some SVS Powered Boxes like this one use a cutting-edge 2 component polyurethane cured top coat that's the most durable and attractive cabinet coating material available today. It's not only fine grained and very sexy looking, it creates a totally monolithic, seamless polymer sheet that is virtually fused to the cabinet. It also increases the enclosure dampening for improved sonic qualities, and improves the structural integrity of the cabinet. Finally, this finish is built for the real world you live in. Unlike less forgiving "piano gloss" or wood finishes it's virtually impervious to scratches, dust, fingerprints, even drinking glass "rings". |
