New STS-01 slim tower speaker joins the S-Series line!
NEW! This slim tower STS-01 will join the S-Series speaker family in Summer 2009. Packed into a Euro-skinny 7" wide "seamless" cabinet you'll find our exclusive new ClearSilk F2, ferrofluid-cooled tweeter, and four newly enhanced soft-dome 6" poly-cone woofers. Of course these parts must be complemented by finely honed crossovers from the best designers in the business. In this case one done by the acclaimed team responsible for the new award-winning M-Series speakers. Stellar imaging and detailed sound stage is the result.
Vault-like fit and finish is rendered in a no-nonsense style that backs the enhanced components needed to play cleaner, with better imaging and power than virtually anything in this class. Naturally, we'll be bundling these new mains with a variety of the already classic S-Series favorites. Power them with virtually any amp or receiver for world-class audio at a down-to-earth price. So, whither "high-end"? SVS originally expected to launch the hotly anticipated LTS-01 flagship speaker at this time. A funny thing happened on the long path to market for that product: First, the redesigned M-Series speaker line resulted in a startlingly higher performance "bogy" than first expected. The "bar" got higher for the L-Series and previous plans were scrapped. The MTS-01 was now "too good".
Second, as you might imagine, the ongoing global economic recession changed our path too. While the STS-01 had been on the drawing boards at SVS for about a year, launching LTS-01 was the next goal through Autumn of 2008. Times change, quickly. By early 2009 price mattered more than ever, and demand of the acclaimed S-Series speakers and our most affordable subwoofer lines had tripled. LTS-01 had to take a strategic pause in development then. When the facts change you adapt, and our global supplier managers are the most agile in the business. A refined high-output SVS slim-tower main was needed to expand the affordable benchmark in factory direct audio. The below is just a hint of how seriously we took the challenge.

Howard Ferstler, The Sensible Sound
Blame Howard. Despite their humble origins, we always knew S-Series SCS-01 center channel was the basis for a fine compact "MTM" vertical monitor. Veteran audio reviewer Howard Ferstler convinced us to market them as such. But soon as it was introduced last year, we've struggled to meet demand on the modestly expanded line. As mains, as surrounds, the S-Series were compact, virtually bullet-proof and smoothly accurate even at shocking playback levels. So how to build on this success? Bigger and better, the SVS way! Still, designing slim towers which could trump the already legendary SCS-01(M) monitors took some effort. The design team called for specially formulated "soft" dust caps to improve high frequency driver performance , and we even hot-rodded our famously neutral and durable ClearSilk tweeter. Plus, another "clean sheet" crossover. Again we had some big shoes to fill:

SVS S-Series: When you do have to ask "how much?". Audio journalists, and customers around the world have hailed this understated speaker line from its launch. We poured the same "over the top" philosophy into their launch as any of our famous subwoofers after all, so making a splash in the crowded loudspeaker market wasn't too surprising perhaps. With this legacy at stake, we didn't take any chances with the STS-01.

Onward and upward with the STS-01. We might have launched a fancy "cost no object" speaker line this summer but our customer base has been clamoring for cost-effective, no-apologies, value packed product lines like these instead. SVS responded with yet another legend in the making. Paired with the other S-Series products, and our unmatched Ohio-built subwoofers, once again, you would be hard-pressed to find much half as good for twice the price.
